Identification of genetic markers associated with variable response in patients to anti-tuberculosis drugs

posted Apr 5, 2012, 9:17 PM by Anshu Bhardwaj

The present anti-TB drug regimen is a limited success owing to various factors. In order to understand and enhance the drug response to TB it is imperative to have a detailed view of  both the bacteria and its host and understand their respective roles in the success or failure of the drug. This study aims to understand the genetic basis of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and it's host in response to anti MTb drugs. This project seeks to identify whether drug resistance observed in clinical trial TB patients and recruited TB patients is due to: Polymorphism in the M tuberculosis genome or  Polymorphism in the host genome
